The genuine artist is never "true to life." He sees what is real, but not as we are normally aware of it. We do not go storming through life like actors in a play. Art is never real life.

Fantasy! Sadly we are bombarded with it. Business enterprise plus mass communication equals "fantasy" and it's all around us, window displays, glossy magazines, television, sales catelogues. It isn't enough to try and sell somebody the product any more; you have to sell them a fantasy to go along with it. Unfortuntely people fall for whatever it is they want to be true, so somewhere in their minds they want to believe that if they buy this or that product they see "one of the pretty people" advertising they will be magicked into the beautiful world that "pretty person" apparantly lives in. But that, too, is fantasy.
