Like at the mall, grocery stores, Walmart, Target and all the other stores, most people park close to the stores and very few people park far away. For me, I like parking far away, that way it forces me to walk and get a little bit of exercise and also I don't risk getting my car dented by another car.

I don't believe in the nearer you park, the easier it is to find your car. When your car actually blends in with the other cars.
I've always found my car easier to spot, parking further away from the rest of the cars.

If you have a lot of stuff to carry, you can use your shopping cart for that. Still, that doesn't give me an excuse to park close.

You all ready summed it up, more exorcise and fewer dings. I prefer to park away from the store door also.
I have seen so many people circle and wait, it would just be faster to park the car and walk. This drives me crazy when my friend does it and I am the passenger.
If you want a mean little joke to pull in a crowded mall lot, when you walk out of the store, walk to the closest car near the entrance to the store. Stop by it while you fish around for your keys and see how many people will stop and wait for your space. I did this by accident once, I had three cars waiting before I found my keys and walked away. OK, it is not nice but fun especially during Holiday shopping season.
I just looked at the answers you got while I was writing this. I notice none of the parking lot prowlers didn't say much, they must be at the mall or nobody wants to admit to being lazy. Or. people will try to say what they think the asker wants to hear. You did pose your own point of view in the question.

Probably because we are too lazy to walk an extra 100 yards.

But sometimes, if I plan to buy a lot, or to buy something really big, I want to park close so I don't have a far to carry the things back.

I like to park close if it's raining, too. But sometimes I'll just pull up to the door and let my passengers out, then I'll go park the car and walk in the rain myself.

A lot of people do it out of habit, others are lazy and don't want to walk, or they're tired, or old. I know people who will drive around forever until they find a parking place right at the front.

Personally, I don't care where I park. You get bashed into less often if you park farther out, anyway.

That's great you think like that, but sadly enough, most don't. We/they park closer to the store so we won't have to walk far to get in and out. Less walking=less time at the store. It all boils down to laziness. Sorry to offend any close parkers on YA.

I live in a family of 5 and therefore we have quite alot of shopping to carry to the car - it is very heavy to carry this much stuff - so we park close to the store.

Because people are f'ing lazy. They don't want to take the extra 30 seconds to walk from a spot that is further away.

I park close because I go in for alot of items, I cannot walk far because of a health issue. But, I know what you mean about getting your car dented by someone that does not have any respect for someone else's property. :)

They don't want to excert themselves :
1.By walking more distance
2.By carrying the things they bought, to their Car
3.By locating a Parking place away from the Store
4.By saving their car from getting dented.

I don't see any other reason to do so !!!!

For me, it's panic disorder. I freak out if I am too far away from my car and a panic attack sets in. It's an awful thing to live with.
