Basketball tryouts start tomorrow at my school and they will last for 2 weeks, the 1st week being th elimination of the lesser players. I have been practicing the fundamentals for about a little more than 1 month. Anyway, I was just wondering what should I be doing today besides practicing everything I know today (what to eat, mentality, etc.) . Also, can you guys give me any tips/suggestions for making it to the team?

I would say don't stress yourself out today by practicing too much. Eat regular foods like normal except in the evening try to not eat very heavy foods. Morning and Afternoon foods can pretty much be what ever you would like because until dinner or bed time you will have plenty of time to burn the calories. The way to make the basket ball team or any thing you want to join is go in and enjoy yourself, know that you can do it, Don't think that you will fail think that you will succeed, don't stress yourself out tonight or all day tomorrow on whether you will make it or not! YOU CAN MAKE IT if you really want to!!!!

Positive mental outlook that shows up outside. Cheer on your teammates and be a good sport. If someone gets knocked to the ground next to you, help them up. Listen to the coaches and don't be cocky. Teamplayers help team spirit which is another factor of the team's lineup. Get some sleep as well. You may be nervous/excited but it's needed because if you show up to basketball like a zombie, you won't be able to shoot accurately or run. It's good that you have been practicing fundamentals. Good luck in your tryout and give it your best shot.

Great advice from Bec!

Get plenty of sleep. Studies have shown that athletes competing with less than ten hours sleep the night before are more likely to get injured.

During the tryouts, hustle everywhere. Be the first in line for every drill, if you can. When running suicides, make sure you slap the lines with two hands, don't just tap them, or worse, pretend to touch them. There will be players dogging it, don't imitate them.

When on defense, stay low and in balance. If your player beats you, sprint back and try to get in front of him. If you get a chance to do so, take a charge. Don't go for steals and blocks while the player still has his feet on the ground.

Make your layups. Nothing drives a coach crazier than players that get to the rack and don't finish.

Don't get injured today! Just practice your layups (right and left hand), free throws and jump shots.

1. Carb Up! Have spaghetti, salad, and maybe some garlic bread for dinner.
2. For tomorrow, don't be afraid to pass the ball. Most coaches would rather have a player who will pass if they don't have a shot in their comfort zone, than one that will throw a wild shot.
3. WORK ON LAYUPS-every basketball tryout i have been to has eliminated about half the players that don't make many layups.

Hope this helps!

Squeeze some tennis balls so you can improve your catching. I know you don't wanna drop any passes in front of the head coach! Also, go in to tryouts with a attack mode-type attitude, and also be agressive. Look to help other players out on the court, play your game, and most of all...try your hardest. Also, don't stress too much today, relax and get some rest so you'll be at full strength, while everyone out on the court is yawning and stuff.

Well i don't play basketball, but when I'm trying out for a softball team i make sure I'm well rested the night before. Being sleep deprived only makes you more nervous. Also, coaches love positive attitudes. Encourage others who are doing drills while you are in line for your turn. Give high-fives to others when they walk past you. Most coaches will take a mediocre player with a good attitude over a great player who is grumpy.

Be aggressive and make sure you're skills are seen. It's like a job interview. They have to see in you what you know about yourself...show it to them. Once they've seen it though, don't get too flashy. Coaches are looking for players who play hard, dive for loose balls, defend, share the ball, follow their shots, rebound the ball, and last but not least listen to the coach! Do all of these things and you'll be fine. Remember, approach each day of the tryouts like you might get cut if you don't play the best basketball of your life...

if you really want it done get it but do you care about basketball more than you want ta get you bellybutton periced. do you know for a fact that you will make the team? what if the ball hits you in the stomach? i would get my bellybutton periced if ti is the only day your mom will take you but. if you still want ta play basketball take it easy on the first day of tryouts. so you know what it is that you need ta look out for anybody hitting your stomach. then on the next day of tryouts go and do what you want to because you will already know what you are goin to do and what you are able to do

The main thing you need to focus on is hustle. Coaches love constant hustle even if you're not that good offensively. Hustle, play strong, aggressive defense, and on offense...PASS THE BALL. Don't worry about your shot unless you're wide open. Coaches want to see hustle and team play. The first thing they look for is a player that can do all the little things to help them win. Guaranteed you'll get a spot if you do that. Good Luck!

definitely get about 10 uninterrupted, sound, hours of sleep! if you think that it's impossible for you to get this much because you might not be used to doing this, take a very hot shower after a long enough that it takes workout to wear you out till you feel like you're gonna drop, and then hit the hay with a full committment to do just that. lock your bedroom door if you have to avoid intrusions from rude and inconsiderate others, and even turn on a semi-loud fan for the entire night to block out distracting or possibly wakening noises and sweet dreams!!!!!!

good luck on making the team!
