What its supposed to be and what it is is not necessarily the same.
You devote yourself to one person, giving your whole being, body and soul, to them. You are supposed to love and trust. Be supportive and accepting. Be there for them when they are sick/ailing. You are supposed to be their pillar of strength when they need it most. The one they can always depend on when nothing else seems right. It is a commitment that is supposed to last until death. Unwavering.
What it is now is, lets get married, and we can always get a divorce if things go bad.

There are different aspects of marriage. The legal aspect is simply a contract between two people that trys to bind two people together with a piece of paper. But like most things legal, what's done can usually be undone with a little effort.

For some there's a religious aspect, where the couple is joined in a union before the god of their choice. There are additional requirements laid upon the couple in this aspect, depending on their religion, such as the requirement to pro-create and the requirement to raise any children within that religion.

But the one thing that must be present for any marriage to work is the personal aspect. This includes trust, openness, honesty, intimacy (to include physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual), and unconditional love. Without any one of these things, the marriage will eventually end or will be very unhappy.

Marriage is a commitment between a man and a woman to love, respect and cherish each other through the good and bad in life. You are forming a partnership and with that partner you promise to be there through thick and thin. The marriage vows explain everything and people should listen more closely to the vows they take when they get married. If you're not willing to make the commitment you shouldn't get married.

Marriage itself is a legal contract where a man and woman become a unit. They share resources, property, money, etc. There are many benefits to being married ie: the government (it encourages marriage through tax cuts, dependencies, etc). I don't think marriage is really about emotion at all, because you can cherish & love someone without getting the government involved.

Marriage stands for commitment between Man and Woman. It represents Love, through trials and devotion as a common interest. It's basically, saying "I do" and I will stand by your side, through the good and bad. Til death do we part. Marriage isn't a vow that should be taken likely.

Marriage is just a legal way to say this man and woman are joining their assets. Almost like getting a partner in the business world.

a union between a male and female. the reason's for marrying are obviously different. some marry for love, money, expecting child, lust, getting away from parents, companionship, etc. marriage should stand for a unseprable union between two persons, who do love each other and are able to accept each others faults, etc. marriage is taken too lightly today, and divorce is often too easy for many, I know many my age that have been married and divorced 3 or more times! to each, it will stand for something different.
