Does anyone have a creative suggestion for what to do with the "third category" of mail items....things that are not bills or important papers (which I have a place for already so I don't forget to pay them and/or file them) but that are not true "junk mail" that I can throw away? I'm talking about things like coupons, "calendars of events" for parks and recreation and such, etc? I really don't want a refrigerator covered with clutter, but I need to keep these things semi-visible where I don't forget to look at them periodically, but not piled up on my dining room table? Thanks for any help!

The main thing to do is sort through it often. As soon as you get your mail, put your bills and important papers where they go, and toss the junk mail. Write down any of the events you may want to attend on your calendar, and put your coupons where you make your grocery list. There's a calendar that has a pocket in the back where you can put stuff like that. The main thing is to sit down and sort through it one day a week when you are planning your grocery list or paying your bills, etc., so that it doesn't pile up.

Coupons should go in a coupon envelope, totally different from the calendar. I keep dining coupons and menus in an attractive decorative vase. I toss the grocery coupons since I don't use them. But you need to keep those in an envelope whereever you go to do your shopping list.

Do you know of the RAFT method for sorting mail? Read, Act, File and Toss? It has 3 slots. The T obviously is the round file.

Search for neattv for this method and remember to watch neat on Discovery Channel.

Some call it the FART method and that's easy to remember too!

We have a corkboard for all this kind of stuff, right next to our calendar. Keeps junk off the fridge and off the bench/table etc. We tried the basket idea - A) I kept forgetting to look in there and B) it became a haven for other "stuff" that I didn't know where to put!!

Have a pretty basket or something on your desk or near the front door
