How did Germany's attempt to obtain oil from Iraq precipitate World War One?
Following Britain's lead, Germany switched its navy from coal-powered to oil-powered engines. Germany did not have oil reserves as Britain did in its colonies, so Germany tried to build a railroad from Berlin to Baghdad.
Russia, France, Britain, and Italy were all opposed to this German expansion and built up their armed forces to oppose the German expansion. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand was only the precipitating event.

Wow what level are the students? OK I think this is an easy one but I don't know. Are you looking for an essay question or a one word answer? OK my essay question would be- What is The Von Schlieffen Plan how was it implemented and how did it effect the war. The answer-
The Schlieffen Plan provided for a war on two fronts, West and East, by first quickly defeating France through a concentration of troops on the Western Front, which by moving rapidly through Belgium and Holland would defeat France in a flanking movement (overwhelmingly so on its right). Meanwhile a smaller army would hold off Russia in the east.
The plan disregarded Belgian and Dutch neutrality and required boldness in its execution. Once war actually broke out the plan was initiated in a modified form, but a number of factors led to its failure, including German lack of mobility, increased Russian numbers, effective French resistance - and the reluctance of Schlieffen's successor, Helmuth Von Moltke, to weaken his Eastern Front. Therefore Germany got bogged down in stagnant trench warfare. Not being able to maintain this for long combined with the U.S. entry led to the armistice. I guess for a shorter answer question would be to name 5 U.S. commanders who served in both world war one and two.
Answer- General Douglas MacArthur, General George S. Patton Jr,Rear Admiral Daniel Judson Callaghan, Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz and General Mark Wayne Clark
There are others and you can choose who you like.

What event started WWI? It is not that "difficult" a question but you will be surprised by the answers you will get, many people have no clue that an incident that occurs quite often in history (the murder of a statesman or royalty), in this case, provoked/resulted in a world war.
