Hello! My son was playing in the basement on his computer this morning. All of a sudden, all of the power went out in the basement. (Lights, dehumidifier, computer, etc) We tried resetting the fuse box, but to no avail. Nothing else in the house is off. Any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks!

Call a electr... sounds like a main wire leading into the circuit broke.

Take things one step at a time. Depending on the age of your home or the year the basement was finished, your basement receptacle outlets may be protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) device. GFCI devices can be incorporated into a receptacle outlet or into the circuit breaker that protects the circuit. If you have a GFCI receptacle outlet, there will be "TEST" and "RESET" buttons on the outlet. Press the reset button to restore power. If you have a GFCI circuit breaker in you electrical distribution system panel and it has tripped, reset the breaker by switching it to the "OFF" position and then to the "ON" position.

If resetting a GFCI device does not restore power or if you cannot locate any GFCI devices serving the basement lighting and outlet circuit, then you'll need to call an electrician.

Do not attempt to repair electrical system components yourself unless you are thoroughly familiar with residential electrical systems and have the necessary knowledge and experience to do so.

By resetting you must mean you have circuit breakers. These can go bad, go to home Depot and get a new one for the basement. The dehumidifier draws quite a bit of current.

Check to see which outlet has the home run feed back to the panel, then open it to see if the neutral (white wire ( is still in connection. It's a common happening that the neutral drops out. By ' fuse box' do you mean breaker box? if not, then the same applies to a fused circuit.

check to see if you have a GFCI outlet... usually near a bathroom or other wet area. You may need to reset that by pushing the red reset button on the outlet.

Try unplugging everything that you know is on that circuit,,, if the breaker holds then plug each appliance in one at a time,, see what Trips the breaker,, if you unplug everything and the breaker does not still hold, maybe try replacing the breaker,,if this doesn't work then i would suggest you call a qualified electrician,,,
