when you have no light and sun light to the tank and still you have green water the only thing that you have to consider is that you had ammonia came from fish waste and uneaten food .Now ammonia is changing into nutrites and it helps the grow of algae .just clean the tank and do 1/3 water change and keep regular water changes of 1/4 in every 3-4 weeks and you will have a health and crystal water tank

Algae usually grows when a body of water receive at least six hours of light. So any light source near your tank could be the culprit. Best if you cover the three sided of your tank so that light doesn't get into the tank; and get yourself an algae eater of some sort.

Your local aquarium shop should be able to help you.

Ask your local aquarium store. We bought a filter that "kills" all the algae, and have 3 algae eater fish. Get a snail, a plecostomus, and another algae fish. the snails do a great job, but don't get more then 1 or then the tank will overflow with snails, and plecostomus, they are hard working and get most of the job done. Get another algae eater to help though. also if you clean the tank every 2 weeks with an algae scraper your tank will be as clear as aquafina~

first get all your fish and pets out of it and take your water and have it tested for the proper balance. we had trouble with our tank too it got really cloudy and green. we went to our local pet shop/pet store and they tested the water for free and they tell you what you can do but we were still unsure and found out you can buy the water they use in their tanks. we pay .25 cents a gallon about 1.25 for a ten gallon tank. it's reverse osmosis water, you can call around and see if stores will sell it to you we have not had any problems since using this for about 3 months now also after resetting up your tank wait about 1 month of the new water cycle and go get a sucker fish they will eat the algae build up of the tank and help keep the green out.

Do a 25%-30% water change every week or twice a week if you have large fish. If you have an algae scrubber, scrub as much algae as you can. Feed less food, if the food is still there after two minutes, take it away fish always appear hungry but DO NOT OVERFEED!

get an algae eater and a filter and keep the filter on all the time. are you feeding the fish too much???? make sure your only feeding them what they can eat in about 1-2 mins. and you should clean the tank out about once a month at least.

The green is only alge there are some chemicals you could use but getting an alge eater would be healthier for the aquarium . You could ask any pet store for options . I have a fish that only eats alge

I would go with one of those Algae eaters...The fish that clean the sides of the tank always worked for me

i would make sure that you are not feeding the fish too much (as much as they can eat in 2.5 minutes) and clean the tank once a month.
