At the risk of sounding like some kinda conspiracy theorist nut, the answer is essentially yes. Babyrawl has the right idea, but not everyone likes the idea of taking their lives into their own hands. That's why we allow governments to dictate our every move, we give them power because we the like the security of knowing there's someone we can blame if we f*ck up or someone starts looking at us as a people in a negative light, we can turn around and say, "look how the government has made us look, what have they done in our stead?"

In the same move though we have become a smaller part in the collective world's quest for the universal corruptor, money. We are passive by choice, and as long we continue to think the way we do, and trust our governments to control us and take up the issues we don't want to deal with, this will continue. There are those who cannot stand up against it, but they are very few in numbers. Over half of the people who claim to be powerless are only powerless because they want to be. A collective mass of people moving in the same direction with the same goal can start with one notion in one person and a series of actions. The masses have the capacity and the power to rule themselves and change the governments but no one has gall to give up their shield against the consequences of their own actions. This is the world, not just America all of the above is applicable everywhere.

Yes we are. The Republican propaganda is evidence of that as fact.
In 2003 individuals (personal taxes) paid in 37 percent of the total income ( $1.8 trillion) into the Federal Government. Corporations paid in only 6 pecent. In 2007 we will pay out $498 billion for defense. The national debt projected will be $9 trillion over the next ten years.
This election is about cash and power. Republicans want to keep the tax cuts for the wealthy tax payers. The Iraq war will cost $2 trillion over ten years. Republicans want the working class tax payers to pay for there own mistakes.

yes, we are and we will always be because we have so many sheepel in our mist, unless some strong leader such as Reagan comes along our country is doomed, and then only if the people themselves will get behind said man and demand changes that will strenghten America and not for political or personal gain, I hear about how the corp, don't pay enough taxes?? what is the difference they are going to make a profit and if their taxes are increased they simple raise their prices to compensate for the increase in taxes so the end user still pays for every thing including the taxes,

Yes, we are just pawns in a chess game. Now enjoy your day off from your McJob in your little McMansion by washing your McCar in your driveway with some Procter and Gamble products.

Then watch some football while consuming watered down beer.

Perhaps someone forgot to tell you that you don't have to sit on your a$$ and do nothing. You can go out there and make your own fortune.
