f(x) is a function of one variable.

for example for a straight line
y= f(x) = 2x+4 is a straight line.

f(x,y) is a function of 2 variables.

for example area of a recangle(with sides x,y ) f(x,y) = xy .

Here lenght and breadth are 2 sides size

Alright, here's an actual answer that makes actual sense from someone who has actually used functions of more than one variable.

f(x) is in two dimensions. y varies based solely on x, and the graph is plotted in the 2D x-y plane.
f(x,y) is in three dimensions, and a little tricker. Picture your x-y plane lying flat on the ground. x and y are both independent variables, and their values determine a third value, z, whose axis points straight up in the air. A function of x and y can also be written as z = such and such, for example, z = 3x^2 - 6xy + 4y^4.
Hope that helps.

The first function has one variable(x) but the second has two(x and y)so the value of the first changes only by changing x but the second function changes acording to the changes of two variables(x and y)

The simplest explanation is that f(x) is the function for the single independent variable, which is x. f(x,y) however, is the function for the two (2) independent variables, x and y.

f(x) is a function that gives you the data about x
for instance: f(x)= x^2 + 1
but f(x,y) is an inexplicit function. which gives you the data about x and y:
like: y^2 + xy + x^2= 0

f(x) is the function of x, not sure what function of (x,y) is. Sorry I couldn't help more. By the way, a function is for every input there is one and only one output. Good Luck!

f(x) is a function with only one independent variable, while f(x) is the dependent variable.
f(x,y) is a function with two independent variables, while f(x,y) is the dependent variable.

f(x) is the function its a way to define it
whereas f(x,y) could be the coordinates of any point x and y

Ok. f(x) is a linear function and it's variable is x. f(x,y) is a vectorial function and it's variables are x and y.
