Eat yorgurt, it actually has been proven to help decrease belly fat. Also, please be aware, belly fat (fat centred in that area) leads to higher risks of heart disease so get on this quick. Pilates is good for stretching. Don't listen to the people who say crunches, that will only build the muscle BELOW your fat. Pilates and yoga are your best bets. Also, do a LOT of cardiovascular excercise: cardio melts fat, strength training builds muscle. So basically, start running, dancing, jogging, boxing, whatever burns those calories. Good luck! And please remember, belly fat is bad for you!

I'd say three things that really get rid of belly fat (in order of importance)
1. Nutrition
2. Cardio
3. Ab exercises
You notice ab exercises are last. Lot of people end up with bellies but not fat anywhere else. This is due to a number of reasons. Excess alcohol or soda/sodium can lead to a belly. cut out the soda (even diet), granulated sugar and heavy salty products.
2. Cardio reduces the layer of fat covering up the abs. Walking/Running helps in this area.
3. Ab exercises should not be restricted to sit-ups. you should work on your flanks and and lower abdominal area. But, the first two will give you that flat stomach you desire.

Sit ups etc are important, but they will only change the underlying muscle tone. If (like me!) you have a layer of fat covering the area you will not get great results, as you won't be able to see the muscle under the fat. You would also need to do cardiovascular exercises to get rid of that layer, unfortunately it is not possible to target the area specifically you just have to do general cardio (walking/running, cycling, stepper etc).
Good luck!
