you can give up lent it is not commanded in the Bible. It is just a tradition of men pushed by the catholic church to help control people. Lent is a verison of passover brought into Christ's church by judiazers who wanted preeminence over others. Paul dealt with this in (Romans 12:3, 16, 14: 9-12) saying no one is any better that another in God's eyes.
