I think they did it because he was being a jerk. To everyone. It's okay to state your opinions, we live in America after all, but he more or less attacked people such as Brooke Shields because of a choice she made.
That is ridiculous.

He's not qualified to give opinions on post-partum depression and psychiatry. I 've always liked the guy but he's only an actor. His opinion carries no more weight than yours or mine but he has the power to talk people into getting off medications or make choices that aren't right for them simply because they're fans and believe in him. He's abusing his fame.

because the media wanted it that way. They focused in on what they portrayed as negative behavior and many people bought into it. Hopefully his true fans will see past this tactic.

It's one thing to "state your opinion" it's something completely different when you force your opinions on everyone else as if you're arguments are the only logical arguments and that those whose ideas differ from yours are "glib" (stupid).

Perhaps it is to do with a reluctance to associate, in any way, with some one perceived as having become rather weird.

because he went weird. or rather, he was always weird, but he let it show. and hes too full of his own importance to make weird work for him.
also - and most importantly, his movies now really suck.

I can't think of any reason, other than jumping up-and-down on Oprah's couch and his know-it-all attitude on mental illness.
