This is called breakthrough bleeding and I wouldn't worry if this is the first time. The fact that bc pills make your periods lighter also cause your body to need to clean itself out once in a while. I was on the pill 20 years, god I miss the ease of the pill, and this happened 2 or 3 times over the course. I just figured my body needed to slough off some extra uterine cells.

If it continues to happen then obviously your body chemistry/hormones are changing and you should bring it up to your doc, he will probably change the type of pill you are on.

Are you on any medication that could interact with your pill like st johns wort, antibiotics or anticonvulsants/mood stabilisers? Have you been taking the pill at different times everyday? If you are this could be the cause but, you know, side effects are common on the pill and can happen even after taking it for months and months because our bodies change and the way we react to the hormones we ingest changes too. Break through bleeding is one of the most common side effects of birth control. You should talk to your doctor if you are worried or if this keeps up in the next few months. You may need to switch brands or this could be a fluke. Also, if you are very concerned about pregnancy, you should use condoms in addition to the pill for the time being although it's probably not needed.

Don't panic. Breakthrough bleeding is very common when you're on birth control. It usually means that the perscription is'nt the right dosage. Tell your doctor, and they will have to adjust the strength of the perscription. It may be too strong or not strong enough..

There is absoluetly nothing wrong. You are expeirencing break threw bleeding, if you are stressed out, or havent been eating properly lately, or even not gettting enough sleep your cycle can change.
