So for my English class I have to read a book and do a report on it. I cant stand reading. Does anyone know of a good book that is funny (not one of those goes on and on about boring descriptions like "the deep creamy blue sky danced with fluffy clouds" none of that) or deals with teenage issues or is just a generally good book?

if you're at a highschool reading level, i highly suggest the perks of being a wallflower. you said you hate reading, but this book is short and it deals with a lot of teen issues, like sex, drugs/alcohol, aids/hiv, and sexuality while still having a good theme and story line. the narrator is a 15 year old kid, so it is very down to earth and easy to understand. the author is not some 50 year old harvard graduate preaching sex after marriage, or advising you not so make 'destructive decisions' like doing drugs. look it up on wikipedia or something to get the full summary.

Books by JD Salinger (catcher in the rye, franny & zooey) are great...and short - especially if you want to have some apperence of thought behind your choice - both are about young people and issues they face. I read both in high school - Catcher in the Rye for a paper and the other cause I got hooked on Salinger. Another good book is Crime & Punnishment by Dostoevsky - short enough to read in a day - 2 at the most, and it will hook you. If you are looking for something with more fluff than meat - check out the young readers section at your library. There are TONS of great writers out there for young readers & teens. The spiderwick series is entertaining and simple...very short and easy to get thru.

Good luck!

there are many books that are very funny
but good novels don't go on to be real funny all the time. every good book comes with long descriptions, that can't be removed.

i know this book and i read like a zillion times all over and over again. the title of the book is
All- American Girl
by Meg Cabot
it comes with a sequel but the first is for me the better one.

i wish this could help

Try one of Terry Pratchet's discworld books. They're entertaining, brilliantly written, and very very funny! Not a serious literary masterpiece, but it might get you into reading, which is the first step!! Once you love reading - which you'll definitely do when you find an author you enjoy - it'll be easier for you to get through, and get something out of, the more challenging books.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. No heavy description, the narrator mostly just tells it how it is.

Oh, and have you ever considered trying a book-on-cd instead? If you don't really read for pleasure, it might be easier to listen to a book instead!

I'd second Tragedy's recommendations, and also suggest Lloyd Alexander's "The Cat Who Wished to Be a Man."

At my school, we read "The Chocolate War" by Robert Cormier. While not funny, it's not a bad read.

But the question that bothers me more is why you dislike reading. Why, why, why?

I read "Rebecca" in high school and enjoyed that. That is mystery and romance.

Read the back of the book to decide if it is a subject that interests you, then go for it. The more you read the better you get at it and you might discover that you enjoy reading books.

series of unfortunate events is good, but the author likes going on about a phrase, or what a word means...but it's great! it might be kinda hard cuz it's in a series, but it's great nonetheles....it's about 3 orphans trying to escape the villian, who's trying to steal their money. their parents died and they want to know how their death really happened. the last book of the series is coming out soon....
a teenage book, right? you can also try the "alice" series, but series might be hard cuz you don't understand them if you don't read the ones before them...but it's a teenage girl book, so you can seriously relate...it's about a girl throughout the series goes from middle school to high school (she's in high school now) she deals with relationships, friends, homework, etc...
more teenage girl books:
The Earth, my Butt, and other big round things...about a girl who's very selfconscious on how she looks, tries to find herself
Are you there God? It's me, Margaret....this targets early teens who are learning about being a teenager
Princess Nevermore (this one mixes not only emotions and relationships, but a nice fantasy story as well. it's my fave)..princess from a different world goes to earth on accident, finds love, but has to make a crucial choice: him or her home?
Darkness Before Dawn (this one's more in depth to high school life and suicide and such)...the beginning's real sad...
10 Things To Do Before I Die (this one's about a guy, but it's still great too cuz it's in his point of view, it's really funny)..he only has 24 hours to live and he's making the best out of it...

If you want action, tense scenes, you can try Sniper but it's about a guy too...he cares for lions, but somebody's shooting them...
hmmm, Stone Fox is real short and sweet, so if you just wanna take 10-20 minutes, ( more or less) that's all it'll take...the ending's real sad though...

Well, hope this helps!! Have fun reading!!

I'll third Perks of Being A Wallflower. It's a very quick read too, which should work well for you if you hate reading.
