hey girl!
Purple can symbolise many things but the most commonly acknowledged implication is probably sexual frustration.
But purple can symbolise intuition and spiritual protection, or royalty, or the colour idigo, which is a blue shade of purple, can even represent the ajana / third eye chakra which is located at the centre of one's brow.

I thought you were referring to The Color Purple (the book and play). Anyway, the actual color purple is the color of mourning for widows in Thailand, purple was the favorite color of Egypt's Cleopatra. It has been traditionally associated with royalty in many cultures. Purple robes were worn by royalty and people of authority or high rank. The Purple Heart is a U.S. Military decoration given to soldiers wounded in battle. Purple has a special, almost sacred place in nature: lavender, orchid, lilac, and violet flowers are often delicate and considered precious. Because purple is derived from the mixing of a strong warm and strong cool color it has both warm and cool properties. A purple room can boost a child's imagination or an artist's creativity. Too much purple, like blue, could result in moodiness. Purple is royalty. A mysterious color, purple is associated with both nobility and spirituality. The opposites of hot red and cool blue combine to create this intriguing color.

The term Purple has always been used in a general sense in English by the average person to describe a wide variety of shades within a range of colors intermediate between blue and red.
The term purple is also used in a more specialized and restricted sense by chromaticians (color scientists) to indicate those colors between violet and red which are not spectral colors but mixtures of red and blue light. These colors are those colors which are along what is called the purple boundary (a straight line between violet and red)

Are you referring to the movie of that title, or the actual color?
If you are asking about the movie, there is not enough room here to go into that.
If you are talking about the color, purple has many meanings. It is a complimentary color, it is the color of the third eye chakra and associated with intuition, etc. Purple, in lighter shades can have a soothing and relaxing effect (like if you painted a room purple or lavendar).
