Two years seems like an awful long time to wait to file a claim when it comes to damage to your house. It seems like there should be a limit on how long someone can take to file such a case.
Even though the other driver might have been the cause of the accident they probably would not be involved in the law suit, since their car was not involved in the accident.
It would be like trying to sue the parents if their kid ran out in to the street and you swerved to avoid hitting the kid and hit the house and was sued by the home owner.
Mr. X was probably going too fast and maybe he wasn't paying too much attention either. If I'm not mistaken a lorry is a truck, which should have given him a better viewing advantage over the other cars, so how another car just came blindly out from a side road without him seeing it is one that I would love to hear him explain in court.
My guess is he might have been looking at a map or looking at an address and/or talking on the phone, but I don't think he was paying attention to what was going on in front of him.

I'll assume a lorry is some sort of motor vehicle and Motor Insurance Bureau is your typical British government agency equivalent of what we here in the U.S. would call an insurance company (sometimes referred to as those stinking essobees). What Mr. X should do is run into that guy's house again, in the same place, destroying any evidence of the previous accident and thereby making the claim current so your socialist MIB (not Men In Black) will take the claim. Hope this helped ol' chap.

Mr X should accidentally drive his lorry into the house again, making sure he demolishes it with the owner inside.
