It surely is an Urban Myth and has been attributed to several people.

No, it's a made up story prompted in part by jealousy of Gere's good looks and success and in part also by homophobia. Gay men do not stuff rodents up their backsides. I'd be suprised if anyone's ever done it, actually, let alone a famous actor with a lot to lose if such a story were true and became known.

yes its true and the gerbil apparently squealed to the gerbil news weekly magazine just before he threw a double 6 and went straight up to the gerbil heaven,

Yes it is true.... and the world got to hear about it because one got stuck and was causing infection so he had to go to the hospitial and one of the staff leaked it to the press
