yes it's quite possible. you need to have a cable with goes from 2 phono plugs to a 3.5 mm (headphone jack). You plug the two phonos into your record deck and the 3.5 mm cable into your sound card input on the computer. then you need an audio application that allows you to record - Adobe audition is very good for this. Configure your audio properties - so your record source is your input on the sound card - if you're not sure which ones then play a record and change the settings until you can hear the usic from your computer - you'll have to check playback is selected on the correct input. double click on the speaker icon in your task bar - this will give you your input and output selectors. I've done this loads - takes a bit of time but is well worth it.

Note: Don't bother trying to record with a microphone - it will sound terrible! With Adobe audition you can also 'clean' the audio to remove excessive 'pop' and 'crackle'

Usually a turntable must be plugged into an amp(unless you use a pre-amp instead). From that amp you can connect a simple phone to single point stereo cable to link the rec out on the amp to the line in on your compy. You can then record the vinyl to your hard drive, either uncompressed or convert to mp3.It's also possible to remove any surface noise and clicks. After you have your recordings you can easily burn to CD if required or just play from your compy.

If you have a Windows operating system, you should have a program called Sound Recorder.
--To find it go to Start> All Programs> Accessories> Entertainment.
--It will only record for 60 seconds so what I do when I want to record music is I record nothing for 60 seconds hold down the keys control and A and then press control and V four or five times.
--Then I plug in my microphone and record the song.
--If there is extra time left on the file (which there always is), I go to the end of the song, then I go to the Edit menu and select "Delete after current position."
--It will ask if you want to delete after the current position and just click on "Yes."
--Then go to File> Save as and save the song under the name you choose and in the location you want it.

Yes it is possible. However, is it worth it? With all the static and popping from vinyl records it may be cheaper and better to see if you can find the songs on line.
