Fact from fiction, truth from diction. It is best to always stick with the truth. Because unless it is an internal lie that can not be proved or not from independent sources best not tell it.
You may have seen a neighbor's dog run down by the niece of a good friend of your's while she was trying to race home having drank too much at a party. If you neighbor ask you what happened because you were 1st on the scene to get the dog help, you can lie and say you didn't know, or some person whom you don't know came barreling down the street and hit the dog, that got free of the backyard. But how stupid would you look if one of the other neighbors saw it too, but from inside their house through a window, where you did not know they seen it? And if the neighbor with the dog came back and ask if it was so and so, because their car was seen hitting the dog, what can you say? Then you have to make up another lie that you didn't see the driver, recognized the car etc. Each lie takes at least another 5 lies to prop it up. Unless you have a very good memory and can remember what you told to whom and when, and be sure those who have been told a lie can not cross paths and compare notes. Keep it real.
How many people get caught in affairs when they say there were at some meeting or away on business only to have someone in the office leak the truth because they didn't know there was a lie covering what really happened?

It is better to tell the truth in most situations because it is easier to keep up with and back up and verify if need be. A lie is a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive. We all lie many times everyday. Notice that the definition is inclusive. How many times has one said, "if x happens I'll never do y again" (or something of the like)? All of us. Society would cease to function without lies.

Occasionally there are situations where the truth is better left unknown. For example, if you cheat on someone you love, but wish to remain with them, confession will not clear the air. The subject will be brought up so often that it in itself will probably ruin things. If you have done this (cheated) and think it's wrong, the best thing to do is make a resolve never to do it again. Also, we are all entitled to our secrets, and in some cases someone might ask a question that's none of there business. You could either tell them it's none of there business, or modify the story to shut them up. If a woman asks if she looks fat, that means she wants to fight...either answer is a no-win situation, even if she's not fat. This ones a classic! But go for the "not fat" answer anyway.

Yes, yes, yes. Don't, however, be a compulsive liar, no one you know will ever believe you. Pick and chose your time to lie, and make sure it's for a good reason, like making a hurt friend feel better. We live in such a complex society, to tell always the truth will get you in trouble, unless you live in a small town. Then you want to tell the truth to maintain your reputation. If you live in a big city, surrounded by millions of people like NYC, you need to lie to survive.

the answer to that is very subjective.
it depends how high you value integrety in general,
and how important a quality it is specifically for you.
lies are told in various situations. i think there are 2 common reasons:
1 - to try to achieve\gain something through telling a lie - knowing that you'd have better chances to succeed achieving it this way then by telling the truth.
2 - to keep from hurting someone - by not telling him something that you know would hurt them, or telling them a 'cover' story.
i personally think that telling lies is redundant. i find it more of a challenge to live my life truthfully.
but there are situations where i think it would be better if i lied.
sometimes i do it, but usually not.
the situations where i think it is better to tell a lie, is when
the person you tell him will not gain anything from the truth,
and more important - that you will not gain anything from the lie.
this is an important issue, since in every situation where you gain anything, you will then doubt yourself wether you've told the lie to gain advantage on the expense of someone else, or if is was trully that kind of situation where a lie was needed.

Yes, there are some situation when you might not won't to tell the truth. If a suspicious person comes up to you and wants your personal info. Don't tell the truth... run! Then of course don't give your info away to people you don't know online (like me, though i won't do anything to you anyway... but some people might). But don't make this a habit, tell the truth when you know you must, like in front of you parents, friends, teachers, or when you really think you need to.

It depends. Sometimes lies are told out of cowardness or fear while other times they are told to prevent the hurting of the feelings of others.
For example, if one has done something wrong, he/she may try to hide it by telling a lie. However if something terrible has happened and you don't want to hurt the other person's feelings, you can tell them a lie. It could be for their own good.
Anyway, you should make the decision if telling a certain lie is right or not. Think about it. What if they find out? What will happen? Is it a good outlook?

I've always stick to the philophosy that you should always tell the truth even if it hurts other people.
The logic is that when you know you cant lie, you cant do anything that'll hurt others even because you can only tell the truth...see what I mean?
anyway you have to have some principles and lieing is bad for a reason!
But there's no reason in twisting your anwers, if you know what i mean
