It could have been the gravel or the other rocks that I added. Has anyone ever had this experience. If so, what did you do?

A fish tank can turn murky for any number of reasons. A poor filtering system, leftover food, a dead fish, or if you added a large amount of gravel you can get a bacterial invasion, which is harmless and should disappear in a few days. Leftover food can be mostly prevented by some good bottom feeders, like Green Corydoras, and Coolie Loaches Don't add chemicals to it when you don't know what the problem is.You said you added, not only gravel, but also other rocks. What kind of rocks are they ? There are three basic rock groups. Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. The first group Igneous (formed by fire ) is the safest, and includes granite, which you can find in many beautiful shades and patterns. Some rocks from the last two groups, can cause murky or cloudy water, and can also be deadly to your fish. I have given you a few ideas, as well as other people here. I have been keeping fish for over forty yrs. and have some between 8 and 20yrs. old. GOOD LUCK !

It's happened to many times to me. I have 35 gallon tank, I started with one large golden carp (extra large goldfish). He was in his glory.tank stayed clean and clear for the better part of a year, then we added two more, thats when the trouble started.was told goldfish and the likes, release an enormous amount of ammonia, the more fish the more ammonia. We got some product called Ammo-Lock just follow the instructions on the bottle, but first your going to have to drain part of your tank, and add fresh water. If that doesn't help do what I did, Start over and leave out all of the rocks, just put in the large tunnel ones. the small stones hold no purpose other than look nice and hold all the feces.. Quick Tip... for every inch of fish they need one gallon of water. ( mine were between 8 to 10 inches apiece) thats why only three in a tank.. good luck. find an pet store that deals mainly with aquatic pets and get someone knowledgable you can talk too...

Happens once and awhile. It's the accumulation of fish waste which the bottom feeders don't eat.

You may need a vacuum type cleaner which will suck up the waste into a net.

Some fish may not be able to live in murky water, but I know my fancy guppies thrive in it.

Imagine, most of the earth's oceans will one day look like your aquarium if nothing is done to control pollution.

Hope I was of help.

(I have three fish tanks, and lots of fancy guppies)

Certainly all you have to do is empty the tank and clean the gravel, the murky tone is due to the fish depositions, fill the tank with clean water and that will solve your problem..☺

is the water quality let say if you dont do regular water changes you will start building ammonia which at the end of the day poison the fishes .Ammonia become from uneaten food and fishwaste so keep in mind to change at least 1/4 of water every 3-4 weeks and you will see the differense

Put a filter or something... it'll go in a few days... but first change half of the water - not the whole thing because the fish wont be used to it...

there could be many reasons for this. Is your tank newly set up? did you recently add fish? could your filter have backed up?, is your filter dirty? and soon... You could go to your pet store and rent a DIATOM. this is a "super filter" that polishes the water and takes out impurities bringing it to its purest state. It will clear your tank very quickly. Just make sure they give you instructions for use

It was from the gravel. It will settle down. I always keep a power scrubber running on mine.

Hi there , you have probably just stirred up the sediment by putting stuff in and things should settle, if not check the filter and pump. Good luck.
