My daughter is 1 year old and only 16 lbs. The doctor said that she is really small and wants to run some blood tests. I already had 2, thyriod Celiac and they were normal. Do any of you have this problem? If so what was it?
p.s. She is a good eater.

Just to add I am 5'4" and my husband is 5'9" we are small and my mom is small and my husband has small small people on his side as well. So I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem and what they were told and what was done.

Are you and your husband tall? Big? Have you asked the doctor why they're concerned?
My 11-month old is 17 lbs and although she's growing quite a bit taller (and was tall for her age at 7-months, which is a bit weird because I'm 5' 2" ... although her Daddy's 5' 11".) We're both on the heavy side of the scale, but she hasn't really gained weight since 7 months. Since then she's learned to crawl and walk though. My Mom says it's quite normal for a baby's weight to plateau when they get more active.
One of my daughter's little friends from our mommies group was born a few days after her and is even smaller than my daughter.
My cousin that had a little boy two months before me just emailed me a week or so ago and said the same thing about her son (who's now 13 months) 23 lbs and no weight gain since 7 months either.
Their doctor's aren't worried about any of them not gaining weight...
Sick babies LOOK sick and Mommy instincts are usually good ones. I wouldn't worry too much if the baby is happy, active and is learning and hitting other milestones at roughly the right times.
Every baby is different of course, but I really like the milestone charts at BabyCentre for seeing how my daughter is measuring up.
http://www.babycenter.com/general/baby/babydevelopment/6477.html
They are broken into Mastered Skills, Emerging Skills that some babies at that age can do and Advanced Skills that most babies can't do yet at a given point in time but you can expect soon.
My little gal is way ahead on some things (which always makes for a proud parent no matter how non-competitive you are!!) and a bit behind on others so it gives me an idea what to try to help her with.
Good luck & take care!
P.S. My daughter was 7 lbs 7 1/2 oz when she was born if that helps at all.

Yeah she is small. Ive seen a doctor concerned becuase a one year old was only 20 lbs. But Their may not be anything wrong. Could just be her genetics. Babies are all sizes. I have 3 sons and they were all off the charts. Big babies. Normal size when born, but gain weight quick, etc..The dr was concerned with the first when he started gaining weight, but then after I had my 3rd son, they knew that is just how my babies are. My 9 year old is now super tall and thin and my 7 year old is the same. My 2 year old is starting to grow out of his baby fat. Doctors just go by the books and automatically think something is wrong, or have to test, to make sure everything is ok, so they wont be in trouble later for not being concerned. Try not to worry about it too much.

As long as she seems health, is hitting her milestones, and is eating and eliminating well, you likely don't have to worry. Some kids are just small at a year old. My first was 18 pounds at 1 year old (and extremely tall so she looked even thinner). She only gained 2 pounds the second half of her first year of life. But her dad and I are both thin, so it wasn't surprising. My doctor didn't worry. I don't think you should, either.

That is very small for 1yr old. If your daughter is also short, happy and healthy generally, then try not to worry too much. My son had what I call a growth stop at 1yr old. We never figured out what it was but he is fine now. The doctor will get to the bottom of it if there is a medical problem that needs to be fixed. Otherwise, it might just be her.

My daughter is VERY small too. She is considered tall for her age just light in weight. Her doctor isn't concerned because her growth at every (scheduled) check-up was steady, you know... head size growing steadily, weight increasing at the same pace every check-up, etc. She is now (almost) 21 months and only weights 22ish lbs BUT does wear 2T's. We aren't sure why she is so petite??? She just is! I'm sure your daughter is fine :) .... just petite too!

She;s ONE? wow.
My 2 month old weighs 12 lbs. TWO MONTH OLD. Your daughter has a problem somewhere, and you need to work with the Dr.s to get it straight.
