Doesn't it sometimes seem

"Favorite Answer"
or
"Answer That Best Matches My Own Particular Bias"
or yet
"Answer That Most (fill the blank with adjective of your choice) Voters Preferred"

would be more appropriate?

tiedtoarainbow Yes, I do the same and I do appreciate the clever, the offbeat, the quirky. So basically I agree with you. Still, to quote Robert Browning,

“Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?”

Please choose me as your "Favourite Answer That Dosen't Answer the Question but I'm Going To Choose Anyway".

Sometimes a funny answer, an answer that is a play on words, or a clever answer reflecting a different interpretation of the question will grab my attention, and I will reward one of those answers. Everyone may not agree on the best answer, but that selection is awarded to the asker. You cannot create a perfect environment, not even on YQ&A.

Aaaah...wha's even more frustrating is when there are only a couple of answers and they are (1) both WRONG, or (2) do not address the question at all. In such cases I ignore the answers, but somebody will award a "best answer" to one of them. Grrrrrrr.

I think there are two best answers to every question--the one that the asker chooses and the one that voters would choose. I think voting should be open to every question--it would eliminate some of those biases/reward what I want to hear

You left out answer that I wanted to hear.

Sometimes there isn't a best answer. Occasionally I'll ask a question just to see how people think.

It is a misnomer... I have witnessed many times a bogus answer was selected as "best" when in fact it was wrong on so many levels. it's "what answer best matches my own particular bias!!" you are soooo right!

All of those points are true - for brevity's sake it is called, the "Best Answer," and the rest is usually assumed.

Yes to all of those. But how else to use a short & concise word for it?
