This light comes one when your electric heat strips are on which means that the heat pump is not keeping up with the heating demand. This somtimes happens if the outside temp is very low or your heat pump is low on refrigerent

NOT TO WORRY.. The auxiliary light is normal and is not costing you money.. It is telling you something:
This is because the heat from the inside of the house in summer to absorbing the heat from outside air and moving it inside in winter. It is effective by itself down to temperatures around 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. At that point either a gas furnace or an air handler with supplemental electric heat will kick in and help heat your home. The AUXILIARY HEAT LIGHT on your thermostat will light. The heat pump will continue to operate during electric auxiliary heat. It will shut off when a gas furnace is energized. Emergency heat is a manual override option in the event your heat pump needs service.

Most check engine lights in that model/year of car are related to exhaust system problems. It could be anything from a bad oxygen sensor to a hole in the exhaust system somewhere. Each time the engine light comes on it generates a trouble code which can be read by a code reader. This code is then compared to a shop manual which identifies the problem based on the code. If you're going to keep the car for a while you can by a code reader at an auto parts store, otherwise, take it into a garage and have them read the code.

if u have a standard heat pump or gas split system, when the little blue light comes on then ur heat strips have come on....think of it as a large toaster being turned on....money money money!! most of the time the strips come on when u increase the temp on the thermostat by more than degrees... better to set it and for get it or just increase the temp by 2 degrees about every hour......

If the light came on by itself, and you did not turn the thermostat up,, and it is not colder then 35 outside, you are probably low on refrigerant and I would suggest you have a heating tech have a look at your system. You can for now go outside and make sure that the outdoor unit isn't iced up,, if it is shut it down at the disconnect that is close to it,, if there isn't one,, shut it off at the breaker. Good luck to you !!

The aux. light means that your means of back-up (electric, fossil fuel) has come on in order to aid the H/P reach the desired T-stat setting.
The trick to a H/P is to only move the temperature up 2 degrees at a time. If you exceed 2 degrees, you bring on the second stage (electric, fossil fuel) and this is where it will cost you a substantial amount of money.
Good luck

Do not let these folks tell you there is nothing wrong.A good service person will fix the problem. Aux heat does cost you a hell of alot more. This will normally happen when the temp falls below 32
