Wow, what really great answers. I would also add, that though some people may get old and never mature, very few people become mature until they have lived life long enough to make mistakes, and learn from them. So, if you are young, and have made some mistakes, take heart, you have the potential of becoming mature!

A good measure of maturity will be if you get a sensible answer to this question.
Being mature means acting within the legal, social and moral constraints that are imposed upon us by society. It does not mean being boring and sensible.
For instance, I like to go out and get totally sh*t-faced with my mates once in a while...........but I don't rape the barmaid, I don't swear at the top of my voice at everyone in the pub, I don't drive home, I don't p*ss in someone's doorway, write graffiti on anyone's wall, steal their car, kick their cat, or go home and beat up my wife. At worst, I may tell a few jokes, laugh rather too loudly and then fall asleep.
That's maturity !

Hi polly,
In my opinion Maturity means when one starts to respond the situations, instead of reacting.
Maturity is when one says no, when one feels to say no,
and says yes, when feels to say yes.
Maturity means when one is at ease in any situation.
Maturity means when one understands that he will never be mature enough.
maturity is when one can laugh on his immaturity.
Maturity is when one becomes playful again.
I think it will give you little idea.
good luck

The ability to provide for your own survival, and even more mature is the ability to care & provide for someone elses. Also the awareness of other peoples feelings. (some people go a whole life time living in their bubble, totally oblivious to others except as objects in their bubble)

it could mean taking on more responsibility and becoming more reliable. You cannot depend on a child to do tasks that would require someone who knows how to prioritize and delegate a workload.
maturity could also mean growing from your mistakes, and learning not to make the same mistakes again.
