Because if they were easy, there'd be no point in asking them. Seriously, why would someone take the time to make an exam with questions that everyone can answer? Nobody would benefit .

Usually, exam questions are straightforward and are not difficult or tricky. They simply seek to determine if you truly understand the material that you have supposedly learned to date.

Some people have trouble taking exams as they can not focus on exactly what the problem is axking for. They panic. For each question, relax, read it carefully, look at all the information given to you and make sure you understand it, then make sure you understand what they are asking for, draw a picture if that helps you , and then use your God given intelligence to solve the problem logically.

Example:

A square measures 9 feet on a side. Find the area in square yards.

First notice that the sides of the square are given in feet and they ask for the area in square yards. You should immediately know that a conversion from feet to yards is going to be needed. So you convert the 9 feet to 3 yaards because there are 3 feet in every yard. Thus since area of a square is side times side the area is 3 times 3 = 9 square yards. Nothing trick about that, was there?

Because your teachers and lecturers are stupid and incompetent beyond belief. They spend hours trying to compile the most difficult papers so that they ensure only a certain percentage of students are able to pass and obtain high marks. This also adds credibility to their courses - can you imagine if everyone passed with good marks? Outside evaluators would tell them their courses are far too easy.

Unfortunately, your educators do not prepare you. They do not teach you properly either because they themselves are incompetent. I was an A-student because I spent more time working through past exam papers rather than wasting time on rubbish the educator would suggest I learn.

Education is generally in a very sad state throughout the world but especially bad in the United States. Exams today are designed to see what you don't know rather than what you know.

To deal with that by being a good test taker. They are secrets to taking test. One of them is to elimate the wrong answer right away. This will usually leave you with two answers that are similar but only one of them is specific enough to be correct.
