Objectionable odors in the freezer may be caused by food that has been left in the freezer too long, food that has been packaged improperly, or by food that has spoiled when the electricity was off.
Several different solutions can be used to clean the interior surface of the freezer. Try them one at a time. Rinse the freezer surfaces well and dry them before trying another.
Don't mix ingredients in different solutions. Baking soda and water may do the job. Use two tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of water.
If the odor remains, try a vinegar and water solution. The formula is one cup of vinegar to one gallon of water.
Household chlorine bleach may be effective. Use one-half cup of bleach to one gallon of water. No matter which solution you choose, rinse well with clear water after cleaning.
If odor remains… Leave crumpled newspaper in the freezer for a time.
Charcoal briquettes or activated charcoal in an open container may help remove remaining odor.
Other choices include coffee grounds or kitty litter left in the freezer in an open container.
(I HOPE UT DOES NOT COME TO THIS BUT.. if odor-causing moisture has been absorbed by the insulation of the freezer, the odor may be impossible to remove. Odor-retaining moisture that has wet the insulation is usually the source of odor. If the interior surface has been cleaned and rinsed and an unpleasant odor still remains, you may have to replace the insulation. Heat and air circulation may help.
In the meantime, if you use the freezer for storage, double wrap all food placed inside. As soon as you take food from the freezer, remove the outer wrapping before the food thaws. The odor should be in the outer wrapping, so food will not be affected.

Clean the freezer with a GOOD cleaner. I swear by "Mean Green" or you can use Pine-Sol, & use the hottest water you can handle. Then spread out newspaper inside & leave the door partialy open with the baking soda. I have done this before & it works. But be sure to clean the enitire interior of the freezer first! Not sure how the newspaper works but it does. Then if you are going to store it until repaired; change out the newspaper & put in fresh paper & prop door open a little. That should keep it clean & odor free until you have it fixed.

This is directed to all of you answerer's, you are not supposed to use bleach, ammonia Clorox clean-up or any other item such as chemical cleaning products in your fridge or freezer, not even dish detergent is okay. It is important to keep in mind your food is being stored here, it will absorb the chemical cleaner odors, this is not healthful for you or your family we don't even know what the negative long term side effects are. You can use baking soda, vinegar, lemon the charcoal you would use for a fish tank can be placed on a baking sheet and left overnight repeat as necessary .

Odors are caused by very strong carbon chains.
If you want to get rid of the odor naturally and organically, I would suggest a product called Freshana Organic Solutions. http://FreshanaOrganic.com
Patented microencapsulation process that uses natural products to break apart the odors instantly.
No worry about anything contaminating your food cause it's totally safe and NSF approved to use around food.
Best of luck!

Well, it sounds like you did all there was to do. Let it open, wash with chlorine, leave a box of baking soda, a little prayer can't hurt and if you are going to have it fixed ask the technicians if they can help you with that, maybe the odor spread to the compressor or something, ask before servicing it.

Cat litter has been a winner for me in the past. I also used coment cleaner. But I do have to say it took a long time of treatments before I was able to use the freezer. I agree with everyone else, remember to rinse and dry before trying a different chemical treatment.

Wash the freezer all over with a mixture of DETOL DISINFECTANT IN HOT WATER - 50/50. Add some washing powder if the freezer is also stained or dirty.
Rice with clean water.
Should do the trick.
Cheers!

Wash it out completely with some mild soap. Baby soap would be the best. Remenber to remove all the racks, trays, dividers etc., and give it the same treatmant. Let the doors self dry after a mild cleaning with a soft piece of material and let nature do the rest. Your frigde will be odourless in next to no time!
