You should put ice on it to keep the swelling down and go the the Doc/ER to see if it is broken. Not much they can do if it is except splint it. Make sure there are not tendon or vein damage. If you can't bend it, it is a good sign, of course pain is a good sign it is broken, but pain is a sign for a number of things. You could have sprained it. Good idea just to make sure it isn't broken. You don't want it broken so that it will start to damage the tissue around the broken bone, if it is broken. Good possibility that it is from what you say.

Go to your doctors, better to be safe than sorry. Years ago a friend and I was goofing around and she twisted my pinky. It swelled just a little but it didn't turn colors. It hurt but I could still bend it. I thought if I can bend it then it is not broke. Now I have a crooked pinky. It must have been broken I just didn't know it.

Good luck

If you can't move it without pain and its swelling and turning purple you definitley fractured it. I would get an X-ray at your doctors office, you don't want it to heal in a broken position as this will complicate things in the future and they will have to re-break it and reset it. Don't wait, go to the emergency room.

You probably did break it. Go to the doctor or the emergency room to have it X-Rayed. If it hurts and you can't move it, it is probably broken.

I t sounds like it is broken. You should have a doctor examine it ASAP. You could develop a bad infection or a malformed finger....or possibly something worse.

get ice on it now, ice the 1st 24 hours. jams sprains and fractures can all look the same, xray only way to tell for sure unless theres obvious deformity.
