Yes I think so, but fans want to see bands and singers play live. So they would probably lose popularity and there for maybe not make as much money.

Touring doesn't necessarily mean popularity or quality. The real goldmine that I've known many successful bands to preach about is in developing a "niche", having a gimmick, good stage presence, etc. The black metal band Darkthrone never tours outside of Norway and yet they're a legend because they wrote great music that was very unique in it's time, and they had an image which people wanted to be part of.

I think that the virtual world has awesome possibilities for artists to share their abilities with far more people than an exhaustive tour of the world, and mountain fulls more of money.

yes you can make money if you sing or play an instrument. For example I play the piano for a church service on Sunday mornings, and I also occasionally play the piano or sing in weddings, and in most cases you can make quite a bit of money doing this. Also, if you teach an instrument you can make a lot of moeny. Some people also play in bands and sing in choruses professionally, which means they get paid. If you teach private lessons, you can make around 20 to 25 dollars a half hour.
