It's kinda the same as the begger man and the thief. The
begger man is the poor man and the thief is the rich man.
The difference is, the fact that the rich doctor and lawyer don't have the pride of the Indian Chief.

A rich man spends his time thinking about ways to make and keep money. A poor man thinks of having fun, if he can afford it.

There is no scale given for rich and poor, rich can be poor when it is compared with another more rich man, and poor man can be rich man when compared with another mor poor man.
Rich in terms of money can be poor in happiness, and poor in money can be rich in terms of sound sleep, and love.

A rich man feels he is blessed because he doesn't suffer from the mundane struggles of life, i.e... food, shelter, relationships, doing something worthy of his time...
A poor man feels cheated because he sees what the rich man has and wants it. Its hard to be satisfied with your life when you are poor...

Do Republicans care less about the poor than other people? It probably would never have come up if they hadn't tried to cut children out of the tax credit program.

Republican House leader Tom Delay, who is known in Washington as "the Exterminator" (his actual profession in Texas), has been quoted as saying, "There are a lot of things more important than (tax credit for children). To me it's difficult to give tax relief to people that don't pay income tax".

I called a friend, Rudolph the Red Nose Republican, and told him, "Delay shot himself in the foot. He said there are more important things than tax breaks for poor children".

"He doesn't dislike poor children", Rudolph said. "He just likes people in the middle and upper classes more".

I said, "The working poor were taken out of the original tax cut legislation and there was such an uproar that the Senate put it back by a vote of 94 to 2. The House finally agreed to pass something as long as the other classes got their first. What is the difference between the working poor and the working rich?"

He said, "The working rich have accountants and lawyers, while the working poor can't even afford H&R Block. The rich can find tax shelters in the Cayman Islands or Bermuda. The IRS has a tough time finding where the dummy corporations' money went. It is much easier for the IRS to track down the working poor because they spend all their money on food.

"Isn't it true some of the rich pay no taxes at all?"

"Some of them don't, but they give to the American Red Cross".

I said, "I heard from a Democratic friend that the President insists on tax cuts for the rich because they are the big spenders".

Rudolph said, "The President will do anything to jumpstart the economy. Besides, some of his best friends are rich".

You can say that again. They appreciate the good things in life, but don't the working poor appreciate the good things too?"

"Possibly", replied Red Nose, "but Republicans don't know any poor people except the ones working for them. I think Delay is getting a bad rap. He just worries about balancing the budget or the political fund-raising. It is not only the Republicans who have problems with the working poor - a lot of Democrats do too. I wouldn't be surprised if they put the tax cut back into the bill because they are worried about the 2004 election".

"Why are the Republican House members so intent in their bill to make the poor wait a year to get their full tax cut?"

"What's the hurry?" he answered. "Look, we are for the poor getting what they have coming to them. Our message is, if you vote Republican, then someday you'll be rich and be able to give money to the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and George Bush the Second".

I told Rudolph the Red Nose Republican, "I'm glad you straightened me out. If the economy keeps slipping, the working poor will become the majority".

Poor Rupert Murdoch
The Hindu
ART BUCHWALD

POOR Rupert Murdoch. He owns newspapers, TV and cable networks, movie studios and magazines. He can hire the best lawyers in the world. He is a billionaire - yet he can't even win a lawsuit against Al Franken, the satirist (a.k.a. Flaming Liberal).

Franken is coming out with a new book titled, "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them," subtitled, "A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right."

The cover has a photo of Bill O'Reilly (the star Fox anchorman), President Bush and Vice-President Cheney..

Murdoch had his day in court and it was a bad one. Fox maintained that the words, "A Fair and Balanced Look" are owned by them and no one else can use them.

The Fox people asked for an injunction to keep the book from being distributed with the title.

The Judge, Denny Chin, had to decide if "A Fair and Balanced Look" was owned by Murdoch, Al Franken, or the entire English-speaking world. He also had to decide whether putting Bill O'Reilly's photo on the cover would mean that he was endorsing the book.

Murdoch's lawyers said it was a deadly serious cover and Franken was using Fox to sell his book. The judge looked at all the evidence and then declared that Fox's case was "Wholly without merit, both factually and legally."

Legal experts said this was the first time anyone found a Murdoch-filed lawsuit without merit. Mr.Franken's lawyer said the decision was a great victory for the First Amendment.

I wasn't called as a character witness. If I had been, I would be on Mr.Murdoch's side. I am a diehard conservative, far to the right of Robert Novak. I have two subscriptions to the National Review, one in the office and one at home.

I read every book on the New York Times bestseller list that attacks liberals - who are worse than traitors and terrorists.

I send money to Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson and all the right-wing causes. I subscribe to Murdoch's New York Post, which I consider my paper of record.

I would have made a telling witness for Fox because of my knowledge of the English language.

Having said all this, I think Al Franken is a troublemaker. He makes fun of the things that Americans hold dear - and he wants to make money doing it. I have another reason to suspect that Franken is a liberal. It's that he uses satire to put over one of his extreme left-wing ideas.

As Fox so aptly pointed out, most people don't understand satire or that when Franken puts Bill O'Reilly on his book cover, he is not calling him a liar but just joshing with him. The same goes for Bush and Cheney.

The First Amendment protects satire, but as the Fox lawyer maintained brilliantly, Franken's title was ambiguous because it did not say "parody" or "satire" on the cover. How is anybody going to know?

I, of course, believe in satire. I put it in the same class as pornography. If I ever want a picture of Bill O'Reilly on the cover of one of my books, I will never use the words "fair and balanced." Those words belong to Rupert Murdoch and I'm not going to upset him. The reason is he owns a ton of newspapers and Franken doesn't own any.

If I am going to sell my column to the Murdoch newspapers, I want him to know that I am on his side.

I will look this topic through this example,
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the
express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
"It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
"Oh yeah," said the son.
"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered:
"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.
We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.
We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."
The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.
Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

"Life is too short and friends are too few."
