Was it because they wanted to show Americans how patriotic they were? They didn't debate the issues that were most on the people's minds, like illegal immigration and the national debt. NOOOO, it was all about showing the Americans a symbol that is guarded by our society. They don't want us to burn the freaking flag, but they are too scared to deal with the real issues that crawl around under our skins.

Last year, by my count, the senate spent 1/3 of it's time renaming things - post offices, highways, bridges, etc. The flag debate is another issue they use to waste time while getting paid by MY tax dollars. No one has the guts to tackle a big issue like immigration a week before an election because they have no interest in resolving things, just protecting their job.

I PERSONALLY FIND IT VERY IMPORTANT! I THINK IF YOU BURN OUR NATIONS FLAG YOU SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH TREASON! THEN SHOT! YOU DONT HAVE TO BURN A FLAG TO GET YOUR POINT ACROSS.THIS JUST SHOWS YOUR IGNORANCE!AS FAR AS THE NATIONAL DEBT IT IS BEING PAID DOWN WAY AHEAD OF SCHEDULE AND HAS BEEN REDUCED BY 1/3 AND THAT IS IN THE TIME OF WAR! AND WHEN THE WORLD OWES US A 140 TRILLION I CAN SEE WHY THIS ISN'T THE HIGH PRIORITY LIST! AND IF I AM RIGHT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT IMMIGRATION AND WERE VOTING ON THE FENCE ISSUES! WOW WHAT DO YOU DO,JUST WATCH CNN,AND MSNBC ALL DAY!

I pledge adherence to the precepts embodied in the Constitution of the United States, not to a pattern of stars and stripes possessed by an imaginary deity whose longevity is perpetuated directly from the ancient ravings of a madman called Abraham, who suffered hallucinations revolving around a menacing apparition that demanded he kill his kid.
Long live the U.S., and may it be governed wisely (not like as it is today).

The issue of flag burning is always pulled out by Republicans whenever they want to rally their conservative base. For most Americans, it's a non-issue. Ironically, the proper way to dispose of an old or damaged flag is to burn it!

Half the population of the United States has below average intelligence and they vote. They can't understand the more complex issues, but they know what the flag is and that they are suppose to love it.

they are working on the sensibilities of the simple minded...Thats the majority of voters now a days...it cant be because of the stance of their political party, because they both suck, when was the last canidate who spoke the issues rather than jerry springer style mudslinging....politics became a giant game show ratings war not a for the people war.....

Probably running out of issues to talk about, and wanted to stress their own opinion just like you and I of their differences. That's all. When we do voted for them, and whoever wins just do mostly what interested them. That's all. They don't really care about us. But they do care when it comes to making it look good so we can vote for them. These people just can't be trusted anymore. These people don't truly do what they believe, they do it to better themselves financially & security in the long run. That's all. It's like you and I, we all want to better ourselves finacially and be secure. Everyone is going for themselves, remember?
