What's the stigma with thrift stores?
I donated stuff to Goodwill recently.
I looked around inside and it wasn't bad at all.
I wouldn't get undies and stuff.
But they have brand name clothes in there.
I got a button down top from GAP- $2. looks brand new.
So what's wrong with that?

hey, i know what you mean... i am sort of a thrift shop addict. if there is anything i need i always check the trift shops first ... lamps, end tables, work pants.. everything except shoes and underwear... and i'm not so sure i'd get a couch from there or dishes.. but i'd think about it if i needed them!

I don't get it either! I donate things every few months to the Goodwill as well, and when I was a teenager I used to shop there and in other thrift stores all the time! For someone a little odd like me, there are some great finds! Random things like an old soccer team t-shirt from some other city, or a funky blouse with interesting seams...nothing wrong with it here!

(smiles) I've been known to drop off clothes and other items, then go in the store and buy more than what I donated!! I love thrift stores, and with me having two growing children, it makes sense for me to do my shopping there and at garage sales;nothing fits for long on my kids at this point, and when they outgrow it, I donate it. I have bought furniture at as little as a quarter of the cost of new, and I collect coffee cups and magnets, and you can find a unique display of both. Twice a year I "clean house" and a lot of thrift stores are nice enough (if you are giving a large enough donation) to send out a truck to pick it up. Halloween costumes, arts and crafts, and maybe that certain type of slotted spoon you have been searching for are all waiting for you.

Nothing is wrong with it. Some people just think that you go into a place like The Salvation Army or The Goodwill you are poor and they don't want that stigma attached to them.

For many:

1) It's someone else's clothes

2) The clothes are not all that good

3) Only the truly desititute and needed fo there

4) New is always better

5) Not organized well and always messy

Now that we have those reasons, put them aside.

I have gotten some wonderful clothes at good costs there. I have especially gotten good dress pants for work and a few snapping shirts.

(I agree with the underwear point. Some thing MUST be bought new)

its great, that you thought ahead enough to "GIVE" your things to a thrift store-thanks, that's a beginning, and yes they do have decent cloths there, most people think of them stores and think only the homeless and scums of the earth go there, military families shop there, hard working couples with kids, who are struggling so hard are thankful, for the kindness such as yours, in the last year a few FAMOUS folks in new york and LA. have even started stopping in, to get a few items, hope your question spurs others on to donate

Not a thing. Some of things still have the sale tags on them.

There is nothing wrong with saving money that can be used for other things. :-)
