We moved 10 times with the military over 20 yrs. And never received a pay raise connected with the move.
Using the same pay, we had to adjust to the living conditions at our new location. One of the steps we tried to do was cut down on the amount of debt before we moved. That wasn't always possible as sometimes we moved every 12 months.
You make more, you spend more. $65,000 is a very good living, even as one income for a family. Sure there are certain high cost of living areas it might be hard, but for the most part, that income will do you well in most of U.S.
Good luck.

Yes you can afford nice stuff , but to me 65 000 is a lot of money . I would be happy to make that much. You can live a little better but not grand . just watch where you spend your dollar and you will live well . If you have a big family to take care of ,,,then it's tight ,but well

In Northern Virginia, outside Washington, DC, it is typical to have a 2,000+/mo mortgage payment. On 65K, you could live here, but that salary is actually lower than the average household income in this area.
The worst part is that so many people think they can't afford to live here and raise their own children, so babies get dumped in day care very young.

This is an example

Living in: Andover MN
Then
You would need to make:$ 70194
Living in: Florham Park, NJ
