What is the difference between a strat and a telecaster? what about the different versions like american and tex mex. Any suggestions on which one is better suited to my playing style. I play a lot of Blink 182, sum 41, Nirvana and other general rock stuff. Just looking for advice. Thanks.

The most obvious difference is the shape of the body, which I'm sure you know about. Other than that, Here are your differences:

1. Tele has a bright, snappy sound, Strat a bit mellower and fuller

2. Tele has two pickups and a three-way switch, Strat has 3 pickups and a 5 way switch

3. Tele neck-pocket is square, strat is rounded

4. Tele has one master volume and one master tone, strat has one master volume and two tone knobs

5. Strat has a tummy-tuck and arm cutaway, tele does not.

Hope this was helpful!

he's speaking with reference to the fender strat like he pronounced interior the question and the tele isnt an as much as date strat because of the fact the tele got here first because of the fact the esquire in any case....... A tele is used for the textbook "twangy sound. in case you dont be attentive to what i advise via twangy i advise that the telecasters sturdy flat physique helps it to recreate a steel guitar variety sound. the guitar oftentimes has twin unmarried coil pickups yet can frequently have 2 humbuckers on the thinline fashions. this guitar is substantially utilized in united states and blues yet because of the fact of its versatility has been frequently utilized in many dissimilar rock bands at the instant. The strat is in an entire different league it oftentimes has 3 unmarried coil pickups and oftentimes comes common with a waft bridge permitting a whammy bar attachment. the strat is a lead guitarist guitar yet is totally fantastic for rythym artwork the strat is used for blues and rock getting that ideal srv tone. neither guitar could want for use for steel yet once you play greater often than not blues rock or jazz the strat is for you in the experience that your an outdated college united states finger pikcin guy the tele is for you. btw bith are magnificent guitars wish this helps

well i know that sum 41 (deryk) plays a tele with hambucker pick ups( his is custom made). He uses those silver ones that are rectangular, i don kno the name. a gibson les paul would work well for those bands, but its pricey. Deryk whibly is cumin out wit a signature tele that cums out in the spring around with the new album. its not supposed to be pricey he said. I would not recomend the regular versions of a strat or a tele cuz i don like single coil pickups. i would get a differnent type that uses hambucker
