There are other wonders in nature that stand out as beautiful too. Such as a sunset or a moonlit night but rainbows are pretty cool and who'd think that they are simply a refraction of light upon a single raindrop!

it really does depend on your definition of beautiful, to me a perfectly formed rainbow is beautiful but there are things that are better

It is true, I think. to suggest that nature provides the most beautiful sights. As to whether a rainbow is the most beautiful or not is really a personal preference.

A beautiful sunrise over the beach in Daytona! It's got the sun at it's deep rich orange color with hints of yellow and red and as it rises the purple and dark blues are seen. It can take your breath away!

Northern Lights have to be the most incredible thing I have ever seen. Rainbows are great though.

How about a three or four color rainbow? Humans in the past only saw a few colors in them. Democritus said they had four - black, white, red and yellow. Xenophanes only knew of three colors - purple, red and yellow. It shows our evolution of perception.
