Ours is a Federal Union . Therefore we have dual identity like you have said beside being Indian but not as per law of the land.

The union of several states constitute republic of India. We the people of India have adopted the federal constitution.

Though we dont have dual citizenship like US, all citizens of India are Indians only.

I honestly think this is a stupid inane question as if one is born in India or to Indian parents he/she is an Indian. The state comes later - though I know that a lot of states who want to be know by the state they are from rather then the Country. They are the true idiots.

We are human beings first,then we are divided into men and women and also transexuals, i guess.Then we are indians and then we are state citizens.
