I added ServicePack 2, The procedure didnt finish. The next time I booted the screen is saying searching for boot record from IDE 0 and it stays like that forever. Tried to boot from CD ROM and it skips the CD ROM and agin tries to boot from IDE. It is a P3 machine with 128 Mb RAM and 20 GB Storage capacity. I want to format the c: drive and re-install XP ........Please give some 'to the point' solutions............its really bugging my head......

if it is skipping the cd then your pc is set to boot from hard drive first. you need to change this to cd in the bios. you do this on the post screen. you usually hit del to enter the bios. one of the first screens will have boot sequence. change the first option to cd. this should then boot straight to cd allowing installation from it.

Go into you BIOS. Depending on your bios, you'll have to press F2 or del, or another key when you power your pc.

In the BIOS change the boot sequense. Set CDROM to first boot, then IDE to second. When you finish formatting, and your pc starts again from the first boot when installing XP, you'll need to re-set the bios to boot from the HD first then CDROM.

start the boot sequence from the cd turn on cd in drive close drive and reboot seeif that helps if not go to freecomputersupport.net or start from cd first

get your operating system software and press F2 during boot, then it will give u many options where u can load your operating system from the cd and install it.
