Well lets get the facts straight. The US is not a democracy. It is a republic. In a democracy, a true democracy, the citizens would vote for everything. There wouldn't be a Congress. Probably, there would just be an executive who worked with a cabinet to give us issues to vote on.
We live in a republic. This means that the people elect individuals to represent them in the government. The representatives are supposed to vote based on what they think their people want. However, you can't please everyone, and politicians are usually crooked. Sorry to catch you on a technicality.
I have to say, though, that what we have is better than the alternative. Honestly...we have the right to worship as we choose, do the job we want...lots of other things. Would you rather have those things chosen for you?
I'm not going to convince you because some moron has gotten ahold of you and made YOU a fool. You should definitely think about the foolish comment you've made and reconsider.

TRUE!!! USA went to war to free the Iraqi people from Saddam and to promote democracy while there is no democracy in USA itself , there are only two parties in America while in a country this big there should be at least 10 , and the freedom in USA has collapsed ever since the new laws that allow torture prisoners by CIA agents , what democracy and what freedom.

Democracy isn't fundamental (or often not even compatible -- see Hamas) to freedom. This is a constitutional republic, or was. I think that is why so many are dismayed with the state of affairs, it's become a shallow orchestration of voting between two twits that argue on their qualifications to hand out goodies to one group at the expense of another.

In Australia it is compulsory to vote. Anyway, the only people who have real freedom and Democracy are those that live in Switzerland. Everywhere else that claims to be a Democracy is lying. All they are is elected aristocracy.

The direction this country has recently taken is one the majority of Americans do not support. In order to change that, it is imperative that we vote these bums out. To not vote today is being submissive to the cynical pressure of fascism. They want you to think it doesn't matter. Then with their organization they have a chance to take power in your absence. Vote Nov. 7

It's not freedom and democracy that keeps us in line is is materialism and consumerism as long as we have our gas guzzling SUV's and our Starbucks non-fat, half-caf, mocha latte we really don't care about freedom and democracy.

If we didn't have real freedom, you couldn't have asked the question.
If we didn't have real freedom, the Democrats couldn't come on Yahoo sprewing their hatred against Bush and America.
