Very easy. Simply locate the file(my pictures for instance - a thumbnail of your picture will be shown) right-click on the file and select set as background.
If the picture is duplicated across the screen(tiles),select control panel from the start menu, then double click display, then select the Desktop tab. For postion choose stretch then apply. I hope this helps.

If you are talking about your computer's desktop, there are a couple of ways this can be done. If you have a digital camera and software to upload pictures, you can go into your software program and select one of the pictures by clicking on it. right click on it and click set as desktop wallpaper. If you want your favorite photos as your screensaver, have your pictures placed in the My Pictures file on your computer. Then go into control panel, select display, then desktop. Use your browser to find your My Pictures file and click ok. The program will use your pix as your screensaver with a slideshow of all your loved ones, favorite pets, or scenery, whatever you have in that file. Just be careful if you have adult pix. You might not want them saved to My Pictures because they will pop up too. Save them in a different file, like My documents.
If you don't have a digital camera, but have a scanner, you can scan some of your favorite pictures into your computer and save them in My Pictures file and then follow the above directions to use them.
If you don't have a scanner, you can take your pictures to Walmart or other photo processing center and have them put the photos onto a CD that you can put in your computer. Good luck.
If you find a picture on the internet that you like, you can place your pointer over it and right click it then click on save as and it will be saved on your computer. Be careful about copyright laws if you plan to repost it somewhere other than just on your desktop.

You can use GIMP to do this for free. It is as good if not better than Photoshop.
