According to that you need at least 3 months BEYOND the length of your stay, so you will need to get your passport renewed now.

Keep in mind that now both UK & Malta are within the EU so officially you do not even need a passport to travel but any identification document will do. Have checked with the Maltese Passport Office and they state that a Maltese citizen can travel to the UK with just his identity card (though a passport is recommended). In view of this it would make sense that a British national should be able to visit Malta with any identification document (such as your driving licence since you have no ID Cards).
So your still valid passport should not present any difficulties at all..

Yes, you can. You do need to take a passport to prove that you are still currently an EU citizen so you will be fine so long as your passport is still valid. However, the UK passport office allows you to renew your passport 9 months before expiry - it may be an idea to renew your passport now as it will be dfficult for you to travel without 6 months validity left.

I think it will as Spain & France requires 6mths on passport, so I think you will have problems if you don't sort it out with the passport office before you attempt to go...good luck

If you have just over three months left you will be fine going to Malta.

You would probably be best off applying for a new pasport asap as I would imagine that you do not have enough time left.
