You may not be getting enough air, you might be a shallow breather as I am. Air causes relaxation, and it seems you might be a bit tense. Take long deep breaths throughout the day, and right before bed, when I do that I get lulled into sleep. I almost never sleep well, as I have stress and anxiety, also. And maybe something is bothering you lately?
Another thing it might be....do you excersise close to your bedtime? Do you drink a lot of soda? It may be the caffine in the foods and drinks you consume, and excersise before bed wakes your body up, gets your blood flowing. Even decaffinated tea at night can keep you awake. A warm cup of milk will relax you before bedtime also.
You can also stretch your body muscles before bed, as your muscles might be tense. Stretching relaxes the body very much! Have you ever had a massage? If it is your body that is tense, then massage is a necessary factor you will need to relax. Maybe mom or Dad can help you with that. Excersise early in the morning, and stretch only at night, breathe deeply while doing your stretching.
Clear your mind of anything that might be troubling to you, if it is your brain working and worries you have that keeps you up. A thing that helps me, is to remember a very happy fun time in my life, yes, I do giggle at first, (I think of things about my son, and the funny things he has done, but you can think of good times youve had), but then because I am happy, and only thinking of the one thing, I drop off into sleep. But I ALWAYS take DEEP breaths throught my day, and especially before bed, that is the main key! I have been told this by many doctors Ive been to see about my sleeping problems, so you dont need to see a doctor, since I just told you what 3 docs said and 2 of my therapists. Try these things dear, and good resting to you.
By the way, your question, and your circumstance is NOT weird. Today a lot of children have more stresses than they should have to.
PS, for some eating before bedtime can cause them to stay awake, but it is not very likely for most, I fall asleep sometimes after eating, but my husband refuses to eat until he is ready for bed because eating makes him sleepy! The only thing about eating before bed is that it might give you nightmares, but Im fairly certain that is not the cause, since youve probably been doing it for a while, and youve only been not sleeping for a week.
Another thing, I dont think being on the computer is a factor, unless its causing you stress. Being on the computer for me relaxes, and takes my mind off my stress, and my problems. I can occupy my mind with things I enjoy. Try playing a few computer games before bed, and that can relax you also. It helps me to no end! Again, good luck!

First, I would consider that you need extra melatonin to help you sleep at night. This is a hormone naturally produced in your body that is supposed to activate when it's dark outside to make you sleepy, and then stops when the light comes on to make you alert. It sounds like yours might not be functioning properly. You could talk to your doctor about this, and he might have some ideas. Otherwise, I think you can find melatonin at GNC stores. (My mom had this problem and started taking it, and now she sleeps better than she ever has).
Also, try to stop drinking anything with caffiene in it after 6pm. This will give your body time to get it out of your system to help you calm down. Try to take a warm bath before bed. That might help you relax as well. If you have homework, try to do it in the afternoons, so you're not staying up, stressed over getting it done. And also make sure you're eating properly. I know when I stop eating enough, my body will keep me awake at night to tell me something is wrong.

Well, then, there goes the mystery! Stress is probably keeping you awake, and those 5 hours on the computer everydayaren't healthy. Definitely try to add some regular exercise to your days, and talk to your parents and/or a school counselor about whatever it is that is bothering you. Once those two things are under control, I'll bet that you have an easier time getting to sleep.

I suffer from panic attacks as a result of stress. I use a deep breathing routine as follows. Inhale to a count of four, hold it for a count of four and then exhale for a count of four. It generally relaxes you & controls your breathing especially if you have a tendency to hyper ventilate in stressful situations. I also agree that 5 hours on the computer is a contributing factor so try substituting a little more time for some fresh air & exercise

The sleeplessness is a dangerous disease. You should try qualificated healthcare. However from my own experience you can suffer from some common problems with sleeping. Check out the temperature in your bedroom. Too low or too high is making you tired but dont allow resting sleep. Try taking worm (not too worm) bath before going sleep. Dont rush with going to sleep, at least because you posibly get habbit to lately go sleep. 9 o'clock seems not fiting in your needs. Try midnight first and change it into earlier time some time later if it works. However if your troubles comes from stress you have to work out the problem by your own decisions. Maybe you need some free time to relax or maybe you must face some problems with bravery. That much I cant help you. Familly, friends, psyhiatrist or other specialist... there you must seek for help.

there are several reasons which result in one not being able to sleep. some are:stress, anxiety, depression, consuming too much caffeine or alcohol, or stimulating yourself too much before sleeping, like if you exercise before sleep or watching TV before you sleep. another reason could be you've drastically changed your sleeping patterns lately...also if you're eating heavy meals an hour or less before bedtime...that keeps you up...
to promote godd-night's sleep...take time out of your day to lay down and maditate or do breathing exercises to help yourself relax, change your sheets and add mmore pillows to make your sleeping place more comfortable...also it is advisable to avoid doing anything in your area of sleep except sleep...i other words...try not to study in the same room or exercise etc. try reading a book or taking a bath before you sleep to help yourself relax...you could also do your breathing exercises before you sleep...also...turn off all your lights and make sure the room is cool enough for you to feel comfortable....examine your daily habits...see if u overstimulate yourself or if u feel angry or depressed for some reason and try to put ur mind and body at peace throughout the day to promote your sleep....

Try some of the advice given, especially increasing your exercise. If that doesn't work, feel free to email me, I know other things that may work but currently, do not have the time to type it all down.

when i was in school, i remember my health class doing exercises to help us sleep. when your lying in bed you start with your toes and tighten and count to ten, then relax, then go to your whole foot, and clench for 10 sec, then relax, then go to your calfs, and so on and so forth till you do your whole body. it helps to focus on nothing in particular,to relax your body and to shut down your brain to help you fall alseep. it always works for me. good luck
