Unless your car dates back to the early 80's the probability of putting sugar in your tank un noticably is verry slim and with todays cars they have a anti syphon ball in them making it verry difficult to get anything but liquid in the fuel Tank, meaning the would only be able at most to get sugar in the filler tube until you added gas which would then assist in getting the sugar to the tank but the ammount would be so small that you would have to virtually run your car out of gas to cause damage to the injectors and lines, and even that with the micro screen on your fuel pump pick up line, makes it even harder so most in likely all you have to do is remove the fuel tank flush and clean, or if your a risk taker just never ever under any circumstance let your car run under a 1/4 tank

Unless there is water in the fuel, there won't be much effect. Gasoline won't dissolve sugar, so it will have about the same affect as sand. It won't do anything, any good, but it won't gum up things. I don't know if ethanol "enhanced" gas will cause the sugar to dissolve or not. Put some in a quart jar, and dump sugar in to see what happens. Over the last 50 years, I've cleaned several fuel tanks that were vandalized by ex girlfriends and kids.The damage was always limited to dirty pick up screens and the inert sludge in the bottom of the tank.

The tank has to come out and get cleaned.
as well as the petrol filter ,All the petrol pipes including the return pipes have to be emptied and if the car is an injection motor the injectors may have to be taken out and cleaned .
Altogether a pretty expensive affair.
No other way.

If you haven't started the car you can drain the petrol tank directly. If you have started the car it's going to be a professional job unless you know what you are doing; you will have to drain the tank but flush the whole system through.

The best way to be sure is to remove the gas tank and clean it out.
If not ;
You would have to drain your tank. syphon all of the gas out , or just drain it if possible.)after shaking the car if posible to mix the sugar with the gas.
Than fill it up with new gas or at least 5 gallons,, repeat this several times. (disconnect the gas lines form the motor so as not to get sugar into the motor.
once you are sure the gas is out remove all old gas. re hook up gas line ot motor, and fill tank again.

And by the way, you were ahlf right. Salt wouldn't dissolve in gas. Sugar would, since it is organic, and would fit nicely into the CHOs of the gas.

if it is small amount of sugar (not more than tablespoon i guess), then it will not probably enter the fuel intake, it would sink at the bottom, if it is more than that, then the only way i know is to get the tank out and flush it. otherwise the engine is toast.
