is 45GBP a fair price for half an hour?

Depends on what part of London and how long he takes. Personally I dont rate companies charging by the half hour - none ever take 1/2 hour. If its a company advertising in Yellow pages etc. as 0001AAA blah blah ......... forget it - they are part of a huge circle of rip off merchants. The best way to get a plumber is to log onto the INSTITUTE OF PLUMBERS website and look for recognised plumbers in your area. Or ask at your local plumbers merchants for a recommendation - they know the good guys. Good luck xx

The average plumber will charge between £60 - £75 per hour, plus parts and VAT. £45 is about average for a half hour, although I won't hire someone who charges by the half hour rather than the hour. It's a bit cheeky and the charges really add up.

It's not industry standard to charge in half hours. We charge hour minimum and then in 15 minute intervals. That keeps prices down, although we are fully aware that plumbing and heating engineers are very expensive!
