Why do people worship celebrities?

There are many people I admire greatly. Some of them are famous, most of them are not. If you're a fan of an actress because she is a good actress, or if you're a fan of an athlete because he is a good athlete, that all makes sense. By why would anyone get excited about someone simply because they are famous? There is a growing number of celebrities that seem to be famous for being famous and nothing more. I don't get it.

There's nothing wrong with appreciating celebrities for their work. But those people who are into worshipping them are living in their own "make-believe-world" where they think they can be just like their idols. Especially if she's that "pretty" and wears cute clothes and has nice bags and shoes.. with that ultra slim body and oh-so blonde hair, etc.... Or he's that "hunk" that females go goo-goo and ga-ga all over him... That's the psyche of it all.

I hope that this thing doesn't go on forever... to me, not very good for growing kids. Parents should be on guard and just be there to guide their children so they won't get swayed with this fad.

I've always just seen actors/actresses as being people who are getting paid to entertain.....nothing special, unless they really have the ability to make you believe they ARE the person they are trying to portray.

I've never gotten the whole "ohhhhh...ahhhh" mentality.
