A leader of Sydneys Moslem community in gave a sermon to 500 worshippers saying that a cat who eats meat that is left outside is not at fault. That if a woman is covered and at home she would not have to worry about being molested.
The country is in outrage as he is virtually saying that women who dress "immodestly" are at fault if they are raped! He was applauded outside the mosque by his "flock"
His punishment - Not allowed to preach for 3 months........!
The Pm says its not enough - what do you think. (he cant be deported as he was granted Australian citizenship many years ago)

I think is appalling that women should be insulted in such a manner. What does his remark -cats and meat have to do with religion? If that is the point he is trying to make It sounds like he hates women. I lived in an Arabic country for four years and I saw and heard many, many things worse than not covering your heard performed by men.

This is why religion makes for poor morality. This person actually was teaching according to his religion, but it is a religion that came out of a culture where women were treated as property.

You see similar nonsense spouted by Christians for just the same reasons.

Luckily, we really don't get our morals from religion, no matter how often people claim they do. The morals of society, as a whole, evolve over time. It was just recently that women even have a right to vote. However, now it would seem backward to think they shouldn't. Back in Biblical times, women were treated as property. This gradually improved over time until in today's society there are only a few places where women are still treated as such.

Unfortunately, religion doesn't evolve as fast as society. So, it's tenets are stuck in the "women should be barefoot and pregnant" mode of thinking. You see that in the US a lot, often reflected in the lower pay women get and the pressure they get to be housewives. Women who go after careers are still looked down upon.

It is really hard to say who is wrong and who is right. In his religion he believes what he believes. That is not to say he is wrong in what he believes, just that it is what he believes.

Do I think he needs to be 'fired'.? NO. We really should not go around firing everyone that says something we do not agree with. If so then everyone would be out of his or her job.

I believe that cleric is missguided in what he believes.. This goes back to some people believing what a raped victim was wearing maybe played a part in her attack. Most of them know that is wrong but some things think it does.

Notice how inefective the racial discrimination commission is against him. In any event we have the LABOR Government under Paul Keating to thank for letting these low lifes into Australia. He should migrate to a country where his values are upheld-goodbye and goodridance.

I think it's unfortunate that he got so much attention for what he said. How did word get out to international media? Because it is sensationalistic. And Islam is a target. I know many Muslims, and this doesn't represent what they believe. Yet it makes for good news copy and sells.

IT IS ALMOST TIME TO CONSIDER THAT ALL MUSLIMS SHOULD BE DESPATCHED WITH GREAT SPEED AND ACCURACY BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM.
LET THEM SCREW UP THEIR OWN COUNTRY, KILL THEMSELVES OFF AND NOT INNOCENTS. ESPECIALY NOT DEMAND THAT THE COUNTRY THAT THEY CHOOSE TO EMIGRATE TO BECOME A MUSLIM COUNTRY UNDER RELIGIOUS LAW AND GOVERNMENT.
I PITY THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN OF SUCH A SOCIETY BUT IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT THESE MUSLIM-RAISED CHILDREN SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES WHETHER A FANTASY IS A FANTASY OR NOT AND NOT BE FORCED TO JOIN THE THRONG AND BE BRAINWASHED INTO BEING A RATHER STUPID PERSON.
