Friendship is love...I am not friends with anyone I don't love. Relationship wise...I think it's better to be friends before becoming lovers.

Friendship in its extreme is love. Thus it depends at what level is your liking for the person. True love lasts forever and so does friendship. Friendship can be brittle at times though. For all this one must be evolved and have a good understanding of human psychology and human relations.

I actually believe that friendship is a form of love.
After all love is a very complex emotion that varies in form.
The love you feel for an object, e.g. a favourite shirt is different from what you feel for a pet and different still to what you feel for a family member...this is again different from what you feel for you partner or a child...
Therefore, I cannot say that either one is better as friendship IS love...albeit a single form of love arising from several.

Friendship is best becoz, it is without commitment. It takes as you as yourself, it helps to share your good and bad feeling, ideas, drives to happy mood etc.
But, love as it starts like friendship, follows with commitment, you have to loss your freedom, self esteem, but it also has some goodthing.
