I ask because I just recieved a new Nokia 6030 and they did not send a SIM with it. I was told that I could take the SIM from my old Nokia 5120 and transfer it over to the new. Will the new phone be missing some new options that the 6030 has??/

Sim card is a memory card that contains the information about the subscriber. When your SIM card is in your phone when you turn it ON, then phone sends all the information from your SIM card to the network to verify your identification if you really are from their network...plus for authentication, billings, all those stuff.

A SIM card is used to operate a mobile phone. Without a SIM card, no matter what mobile phone model you have, it just won't work.

Theyre' right in telling you that you can transfer your old SIM card to your new phone. It will have features working if your service provider offers the service - such as MMS, international roaming, GPRS, email services, online games and chat, etc. If not, then I suggest that you buy a new SIM card from a company that offers such services so that you'll be able to use yournew phone's features to the max.

Othe features such as video and still recording or polyphonic ring tunes will work with any SIM card.

hmm... that depends... normally, sims are used to store data (address book, messages, etc.) and it is "programmed" to connect you to your operator's network. that is, if you save them to sim and not to phone memory... it CAN be missing things from your old phone because not all features of 1 nokia phone is present in other nokia phones... just get used to it in other words... ;)

sim card stores only your contacts and sometimes messages. other features like tasks and calendar are saved on your old phone.
