During part of the life cycle of the termite they have wings, so if you ever see ants with wings they are probably termites. Carpenter ants will damage wood.

Usually little ants on the cupboard are called "piss ants " because they just piss you off, no real damage. Any household ant spray will take of them. Your problem sounds more serious, especially because of the sill being soft. Sounds like termites. Check around the house (slab or peers) for tunnels leading into house. Spray and destroy them because termites use these to enter and leave house. You may have to call someone since it sounds like your already infested. Don't pile wood around house, this is perfect breeding ground. Good Luck.

I don't know if you have ants or termites, but if they are ants try sprinkling dried cream of wheat on the ground, check the forcast first to make sure its not going to rain for a few days. What will happen is the ants will eat the cream of wheat and get very thirsty. Once they drink water they will explode, because the cream of wheat expands in their bellies. You can also place this in your home, and it is safe around children and animals. Good Luck I hope this helps!

For right now the best thing to do is to buy those little ants baits and put them every where, if they are carpenters ants or termites it will help. I had to replace two windows because of carpenters ants. Good luck

If your hand would go through the sill then it means that you have termites. Sorry.
