I am glad that you asked this.
I was talking about this 20 minutes ago.
My grandfather passed away last year and since then my grandmother has had a terrible time being alone. She gets worried about everything. I feel very sad for her.
On the other hand............ when you are single people act as though it is "wrong" in not wanting to be alone but when you lose someone that you loved and in that you are left alone then we have great sympathy.
I do not understand it!
Most people who are single are not looking for sympathy but rather looking for understanding.

I don't know, I am a woman and I love to be alone. But there is nothing wrong with a woman that is afraid to be alone, either, I think it is just an individual thing. Nothing to be ashamed of at all.

To be afraid when your alone (female or male) is okay, it's normal. Everyone has fears and if they don't then that's swell too. But to tease someone of their insecurity is just underhanded. You see, no one wants to broadcast their weaknesses and to have it displayed and ridiculed could be the ultimate embarrassment ever and because someone can get a strong reaction like this they will make a big deal of it.

I don't know why people would make a big deal out of it. I am not afraid of being alone. I actually love being alone.

women should always experience being alone and most of us do but the ones who have never tried being alone have a very hard time with it...they are afraid of just the thought of it and society has to put its 2 cents in and say its not normal......well guess what more power to these women who can be alone because it is their choice....miia

Nothing is wrong with being alone if you love yourself and have friends and interests that makes you feel secure and fulfilled.
I have been alone for many years and I too wonder why others are afraid to be.
Perhaps they are too needy and not strong enough.

I think it's ok to say that women are afraid to be alone. I do not see anything wrong with that.

Why is it focused on women?
The concept of lonliness is unpleasant to everyone, particularly those who have experienced it.
Children and elderly experience it, and it has nothing to do with gender. A man can be lonely too and fear is a very natural emotion to accompany it as well as anxiety and a myriad of other things.
