I think everyone agrees with you so far that we should get a lot tougher on ASBO yobs. But the question is how?, lock 'em up, in already overcrowded prisons? The tagging system is only having a temporary effect, most wearers are even proud of their criminal 'achievements'.

Personally I think 'Lads Army' styled boot camps is the answer, or just bring back National Service for 16-19yr olds. Especially if they've had an ASBO served on them, rather than a mandatory requirement for school leavers. Girls to, as they can be just as anti-social. Unfortunately I doubt we will ever see the existence of 'boot camps' to instill some discipline into people, simply because we live in a 'nanny state' and the law nowadays tends to favour the criminal rather than the, honest law-abiding victims.
What SAD times we're living in.

The obvious answer is yes but to be honest i grew up on a poor council estate in middlesbrough and the gangs were out side the shops or walking the streets and the problem seemed to be the odd one or two in the gang who could influence the rest of them to do what ever they asked you have heard the saying one rotten apple will rot the whole box and that is the same all over the country its the age off 16 to18 the lost generation unless they have good parents to guide them on the right path they will become victims of the lost generation they can not get help from the government as they are to young no one will employ them as they have no exp. no dole money till they turn 18 so these kids wake up on a morning and have nothing to do all day except hang around and it is easy to say go and get a job or some training of some kind but most of these kids mums and dads will not show much support so the easy option is to hang around and look for kicks around the streets and that's where the trouble starts they become targets for drug dealers they will be involved in petty crime to fund them selves as they do not have any money coming in and before long a fully fledged criminal is born who,s life will involve prison drug addiction violence all this could have been avoided if the lost generation were helped at the right time

Oh yes!

The laws need reviewing and the concept of paying back to society in a meaningful way, rather than a slap on the wrist or a spell in a youth offender facility, needs to have a public service
component added to it.

Generally speaking there needs to be a recognition by everyone that adults have adult responsibilities. Parents have to own up to rather more than the fact that they conceived their children. They have to take back control in their families instead of becoming embroiled in the latest soap or docu-drama currently on TV.

i totally agree

i think that part of the problem is that we are not giving the police any laws that they can use to tackle kids who are being a public nuisance other than just to 'talk' to them and 'ask' them to move on

taking them back to mother when parents couldn't care less what their 'cherubs' get up to obviously isn't working

i am British and have just returned from another country where they treat 14yos like adults and will send them to prison if their actions warrant it and they don't get the kind of yobbish behaviour that we get in the UK

we also need to boot out the euro courts that manage to overturn our attempts to deal with such problems too

I think all these PC bodies should be disbanded and ignored, give the discipline back to parents, schools and police.

I READ IT IN THE NEWS HERE IN THE MIDDLE EAST & LAUGH AT SOME OF THE POLICIES THAT TONY BLAIRS GOVERNEMT REPRESENTS....................

SOME OF THEM ARE TO THE POINT OF BEING RIDICULOUS...........................

A YOB BREAKS INTO A OLD MANS HOUSE & TRIES TO STEAL. THE OLD MAN DEFENDS HIS PROPERTY & LIFE BY COUNTER ATTACKING THE ROBBER.

THE LAW, MAKING A JOKE OF ITSELF, SIDES THE ROBBER AS HE PUT A CLAIM OF PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY THE OLD MAN, DURING THE ATTEMPT...

YOU NEED AS OVEHAUL, NOT A TOUGHER OUTLOOK.....................
